Asp's Blessing
Sabbat teachings sometimes compare the sect to a snake. This ritual gives that metaphor tangible form. The priest raises a snake (almost always of some poisonous species) before the pack and asks Caine’s spirit to guide the snake’s eyes and fangs. Each pack member must step forward to kiss the snake. If it bites back, the priest denounces the participant for concealed sins. At the end of the Asp’s Blessing ritual, examination and Contrition rituals follow for all who failed the test of purity.
"To kiss the serpent is to admit to the lies of the soul
To stare into its eyes is and not flinch is loyalty itself
Let it feel your heart’s weight
So you may be proven."
Effect: The Asp will bite any who have committed acts against the Sabbat. Test; Priest's permanent Ritual Ability Traits vs. traitors current Subterfuge Ability (per act).
Tests of Pain
Pain can cause a vampire to lose all control, and though the use of Fortitude is amazing, it has yet to have the power to stop all pain. This simple Ritual allows a vampire to ignore trivial wounds, though they come in contact with their own heart’s fear to do so.
"Pain means we are alive
But we do not breathe
Hurt means we feel
but we do not eat
Agony tells us we are human
But we are dead."
Effect: Participants may Ignore bruised wound penalties. Test; Courage vs 2 Traits or lose 1 Willpower.
Voice of the Blood
The ability to instantly communicate under pressure should not be underestimated. Being able to silently communicate instructions to multiple targets could mean the difference between life and death. The effects of this Ritual allow a group to receive messages from the designated leader, five words in length. However, the effect is so powerful that anyone with Telepathy can enter your mind with ease.
"Silence holds our mind
Our mind holds our will
Speak with me so I may succeed
Let me hear the voice of my brethren
Let me sing out with dedication."
Effect: The designated leader may send up to five Telepathic words to the Ritual participants – but are 4 Traits down to resist Telepathy.
Silence of the Night
Packs about to embark on an assignment that requires silence practice this Stealth ritual, as do packs that simply wish to test their discipline. Participants bite out each other’s tongues and spit the severed organs into a fire. This inflicts no lasting damage; the participants each spend a Blood Point to stabilise the wound. In some cases the Ductus or Priest refrains from participating so that he can give orders, while in others all pack members join in and communicate through hand signals and mental Disciplines.
"Under cover of night we hunt
In the shadows we stay
Striking at the heart of our foe
Death is our aid, and night our tool."
Effect: The Ritual group gains 2 bonus Stealth Ability points. Contributors must cut out their own tongue.
Reveal the Inner Beast
This Ritual was first used to create a feeling of fear and mistrust when the Anarchs were trying to muscle in on an area. It has been used in modern nights to extract information from individuals without the use of physical violence.
"The beast is fear
Our face hides our desire
The beast triumphant
Our bodies weak
The beast shall overcome all
Our soul is lost."
Effect: The Ritual group gain 3 bonus Intimidation Ability points, but can not initiate any Social Challenge other than Intimidation-based.
Iolanda's All Seeing Eye
Created by a Toreador Antitribu, this Ritual was first used to find those spies who used Obfuscate to obtain the Sabbat’s secrets. The mutilation of the eye was just bonus for the sadistic creature who first performed the ritual.
"If your eye offends you
Pluck it out
So you may see more clearly
That which is hidden
For you do not truly see with your eyes
But with your blood in your chest."
Effect: Any participant who cuts out one of their own eyes will gain the ability to initiate a Challenge to pull Obfuscated vampires into view. The eye does not have to be destroyed.
Soul of Hektor
A ritual which may actually date back to the fall of Rome itself. Legend speaks of great ancient warriors never really dying and infusing worthy fighters with their warrior capabilities. This ritual created by a potent Pack priest claims to have actually ripped the soul of the great warriors from the past and added it to the strength of his pack. This power though great, is short lived and creates a huge amount of animosity as the beast urges to break free.
"We shall shatter our enemies
We shall grind their organs
We leave our enemies begging
We shall be victorious."
Effect: Grants 2 Bonus combat re-tests which must be used before all other Situational Retests.
Lay of the Land
Since before the ties of urbanisation all humans had experiences with Survival, and thus so did Cainites. Now though new vampires do not understand the fields and woodlands as they do the cities. Rarely used; it allows vampires who have to make long trips more likely to survive when moving around in the wilderness.
"Our home is the very land beneath our feet
The city is made of trees and stars
The road allows us access
With the Beast we are free."
Effect: Grants 2 bonus 2 Survival Ability traits. During the ritual all the participants must deal 1 Lethal to their right hand. If the priest heals their wound the Ritual effect is disruped for everyone.
Embrace the Concrete Jungle
In modern times it is imperative that the Sabbat keep with the times. This Ritual was developed to allow a better transition for Elders to awaken in unfamiliar urban territories; however the usefulness of this ability even for the youngest Cainite cannot be denied as it proves even the greenest of vampires knows how to utilise the streets to their advantage.
"Our home is concrete and stone
The jungle is made of buildings and lights
The unfamiliar land becomes our ally
With it the host remains true."
Effect: Grants 2 bonus 2 Streetwise Ability traits. During the ritual all the participants must deal 1 Lethal to their right hand. If the priest heals their wound the Ritual effect is disruped for everyone.
Focus the Inquisitive Mind
Research is a tool used by the most long-lived of Cainites. To understand a place, a person or even an object can mean the difference between unlife and death. This Ritual was created so a Cainite may more accurately perceive the world around him; though to do so comes at a price. The Cainite must willingly give up a sense they have available to them. Thus a normally deaf vampire could not sacrifice his hearing, nor could he enhance it. More than one sense may be enhanced but each type of sense is intrinsically more valuable than another. To give up one’s taste and sense of smell is unlikely to be too damaging, whereas to lose the ability to see, plunges you into a world of darkness you may never have experienced before. The more valuable the sense you lose, the more likely another sense will sharpened. Though it has been attempted, losing your sight prevents the use of any discipline which requires any type of sight or eye contact; though it may well be necessary in certain situations.
"We can see in a world of darkness
We can hear in a realm of silence
We can smell in a place with no odours
We can feel in when we are not being touched
We can taste the very life blood which runs through our veins."
Effect: Grants a bonus acute sense - deprive yourself of a sense ( Taste = 1, Touch = 2, Smell = 2, Hearing = 4 and Sight = 5). You cannot sacrifice a sense you do not have.
The Ritual of the Lucky 13
In the harsh nights of the Sabbat, sometimes a little good fortune goes a very long way. A pack of thirteen Camarilla defectors developed this Ritual to help them survive the ways of the Sabbat. They defied death so much that they became known as the Lucky 13 Pack. Sadly on the night when the youngest pack member re-grew the lost finger too early, the rest of the pack lost their luck and they were all killed. Still the Ritual survives today. It can be done with smaller packs but 13 fingers must be lost for the Ritual to take effect.
"May Lady Luck shine down upon us
May we escape the big sleep
May the Sabbat rule the night
May Luck love us like her own children."
Effect: Each participant must sacrifice a finger; between them 13 minimum must be sacrificed. Each member gains 1 Lucky Retest for the night.
Venom in the Blood
Bizarrely this Ritual is often used more as a deterrent; Cainites imply they have used this Ritual when in fact they have not. The very act of drinking blood from a Cainite who has this Ritual performed on him is poison to anyone who tastes his blood. Spreading the word that you have this Ritual could be a potential social deterrent against Diablorie.
"Drink from me and you shall burn
Betray my trust and you shall be consumed
Become my enemy and your soul shall be lost, f
For my life brings only death."
Effect: If a creature drinks the blood of a participant they will take one Lethal wound from each point consumed.
Weakness Lost
The Clan weaknesses have always been problematic; more so for those with visually disabling weaknesses such as the Lasombra or Nosferatu. There are times when infiltration and deception cause it to be necessary for these weaknesses to be lost temporarily. The 13 mainstream clan weaknesses have been identified and transferred successfully. The minor bloodlines have yet to have the same success.
"Share with me my brother
Share my pain, share my curse
For we are Sabbat, we are as one
We share in each other’s misery
Take my pain so I may be strong
take my weakness so I may lead
For we are Sabbat, we shall rule this night
We shall be victorious."
Effect: This Ritual enables the transfer of Clan weaknesses from one pack member to another. If the donor of the weakness dies, the recipient will retain the weakness.
The Feast of Rebecca
The story of Rebecca is one of courage and resource. To sup from her blood makes the Cainite calmer in all situations, though to prove yourself worthy you must first overcome the Beast within. Such Rituals are often conducted before meeting a Cardinal, for to lose one’s temper there is to invite death itself.
"May the resolve of Rebecca bless us this day
Let her courage and serenity awash our demons
Let the beast be soothed in this time."
Effect: This Ritual grants a free Retest on Self Control/Instinct challenges. All those involved in the Ritual put all their blood into a vessel in which the priest is standing. All participants must resist falling into a Feeding Frenzy, difficulty 7 minus the Priest's Ritae Ability level.
